A non-profit built on the belief that research, action, and advocacy — led by youth — can change how Somalia protects its environment.
Our Story
Blue Horn Initiative was founded by a group of young Somali environmental and marine science professionals who kept encountering the same gaps — in research, in institutions, in public awareness, and in the space given to youth within Somalia's environmental sector.
We began as Blue Horn Marine Initiative, focused on marine conservation and the blue economy. As our work grew, we recognized that Somalia's environmental challenges don't sit in neat categories — droughts, floods, coastal erosion, plastic pollution, and food insecurity are all connected. So we expanded into climate action, environmental education, and community resilience, while keeping the ocean and Somalia's coastline at the core of who we are.
A sustainable and resilient Somalia where healthy ecosystems, informed communities, and empowered youth work together to protect the environment and promote sustainable development for present and future generations.
To promote environmental sustainability through research, education, community engagement, and strategic partnerships — while empowering young people to become leaders in environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable resource management.
